Summit
The Purpose
This summit positions Peace Education as an action-oriented priority for civil society and global education systems.
Our mission is to:
- Spotlight effective approaches and practical initiatives and tools that work in the real world.
- Connect key actors, institutions, and experts to foster cross-sector collaboration.
- Scale commitments into policies, programs, and partnerships that ensure long-term impact and continuity.
We aim to engage a diverse network of peace education actors, educators, human rights defenders, and social innovators who believe that peace is not a top-down mandate, but a bottom-up capability. By hosting this summit at UNESCO Headquarters, we bridge the gap between local grassroots evidence and international policy frameworks.
Our Foundation: The UNESCO Framework
Our work is guided by the UNESCO Constitution, which reminds us that peace must be built in the minds of women and men.
We align directly with the 2023 UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights, International Understanding, Cooperation, Fundamental Freedoms, Global Citizenship, and Sustainable Development. Through this lens, we adopt a dynamic approach:
- Peace is more than the absence of conflict.
- It is a positive, participatory, personal, and dynamic process.
- It is firmly grounded in human dignity, mutual care, and sustainability.
- It serves to advance human rights and fundamental freedoms.
